I had the time of my life working as a holiday campsite rep in the South of France, during my gap year between A levels and university. I was on the campsite for three months (from the end of
"montage" in early April to mid July).
Everyone expects reps to be quite loud, bubbly people and for a lot of people that is true. However being a campsite rep is a fantastic way to bring shy people out of themselves and this was certainly true for me.
I've been camping from an early age, staying with companies such as Eurocamp and Keycamp all over France and have loved every single second of it. Anyone who has spent any time camping in Europe will tell you that there is no better, more relaxed and yet at the same time fun and lively atmosphere than on a campsite.
Everyone is very friendly and even the most pessimistic Brit cannot help but adopt a more continental attitude to life when on holiday there (as you will see from many of the kind, generous customers you will encounter).
Being a camping rep had its benefits long after the end of the season: it prepared me (and my liver!) for life at university, living away from home, cooking for myself and generally looking after myself, as well as staying up till the early morning, partying the night away and then getting up and going to work. Adopting a work-hard, play-hard attitude is definitely a 'must' to get the best experience.
