Yes, being a campsite courier is a lot of fun! Putting the work to one side, there is a great social life to be had. The groups I was with were tremendous and I've made some wonderful friends from around the UK and other countries.
It can take a few days to settle in and for the others to get to know you, but if you work hard to keep your boss happy, be yourself and tag along, you'll be fine. If it's a large group just don't make friends with one person, it really is much better to get to know everyone really well. After all, you will be living, eating, shopping, relaxing together.
There's plenty of drinking that takes place after work ... with all the associated fun and mayhem! You may well learn some new games - I won't go into detail here, but many seem to involve alcohol, LOL!
Being a campsite courier can be the experience of a lifetime if you make the most of the situation. Embrace the fact that you are in another country... get involved in local things e.g. my colleagues and I in Spain made sure that we tried paella, sangria, went to towns that were traditionally Spanish and attended fiestas. Great fun!
Another important part is getting along with the people you work with. In general you will meet many like-minded people, as you are all out there for a similar reason. When you've finished work it makes sense to get out of your uniform and make the most of your time off. At the same time it's important not to forget the others you work with: if someone needs help cleaning or with an awkward customer, why not volunteer to help them. After all, sitting in the 'live' area on your own isn't that much fun and if you help a colleague in their time of need they may well offer to help you out in the future!
If you work in a large team don't just stick to a couple of people, get to know everyone. At the end of the season you will have made some very close friends that you won't want to leave.
Go out together, even if it's just to the site bar. You'll also spend many evenings sitting outside the tents having a barbecue and a couple of beers with your colleagues; it's so lovely and VERY relaxing. When you've finished work you genuinely feel as though you're on holiday .... and what a holiday!
On your days off try your best to get off site, perhaps a trip to the beach or looking around a local town. Make the most of your bike and the local transport: it helps you to feel more integrated into your surroundings, PLUS you get to know more about the local area, which is useful as customers ALWAYS ask you for recommendations of towns etc to visit, nice beaches and good restaurants. So go exploring!
Being a campsite courier is much more fun than I'd ever imagined!
